Whatʻs happening at the farm today?

Livestock rearing, plant cultivation, and infrastructure development.  In addition to Zebu cows, Kākou is home to 10 muscovy ducks, 2 geese (Oʻhia and Lehua), 4 chickens (Goldie Hen, Rizzo, Reggie, and Gwen), one Rooster (Geoffrey) who thinks the sun rises at 3:30 a.m., and one regular duck who thinks heʻs a chicken (Chuck).   With North Kohala under water restriction, weʻre abiding by the 400 gallon per day maximum and focussed on collecting genetic potential in the form of our 100+ varieties of food producing and ecologically desirable plants.  Weʻre also trialling non-invasive forages to eliminate the costly and environmentally adverse purchase and delivery of feed.  Building towards a productive future is slow when limited by municipal water, but weʻre doing it.  Construction of our well and County approval of our solar PV system / dedicated electrical building will kick off our campaign, enabling us to provide animals with all their essential needs, in optimized format, perennially, with no grid connection or inputs other than minimal use of organic fertilizers.  Drawing on years of experience in scientific agricultural work and industrial electrical design assures the optimization of pasture management, livestock care, and cultivation methodologies.  This means precise quantification of each speciesʻ needs, as well as how to efficiently meet them using renewable energy and nutrient (re)cycling.

Do you have Zebus for sale?

Not yet.  With four calves expected later this year and a second importation planned for June/July weʻre racing to make your Zebu dream a reality.  Quality care takes time, and weʻll give Rosa, Goose Meadow Raven, Maizey and Daisy plenty of rest before breeding them again.  The good news is weʻve nearly completed pasture irrigation design, to be installed prior to well construction for a quick hook up after State approval.  So when we do begin providing to carefully selected homes, youʻll receive cows (minimum purchase of three for animal comfort) raised on immaculate T2 grass filled pasture, irrigated, mowed, picked over with a fine tooth comb.  So please be patient, and send us an email if youʻd like to find out more about eligibility requirements.
