Kākou Farm
Our Story
Agricultural science is what we do!
Stewart Rhoads, scientist and founder, holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Stanford University, and has owned and operated businesses since 1999. Kakou Farm, his newest venture, is acquiring climate suitable livestock and plants to optimize their care, develop water and energy efficient best practices, and freely share the results with the local community. Research and production will be supported by sale of IMZA registered Zebu cows, indigenous to the humid tropics and ideally suited to North Kohalaʻs climate.
Mission and Aspirations
Environmentally conscious farming
We believe that unsprayed, fresh food is fundamental to a healthy lifestyle. One aspect of our multi-faceted mission is to grow quality, nutritious produce, while optimizing resource utilization, applying modern technology, and minimizing environmental impact. Regenerative farming practices combined with a diverse portfolio of endemic, beneficial insect attracting, and food producing plants, and a suite of electric tools will make our vision a reality. All buildings will be concrete domes, built to last for a century or more with minimal maintenance. By late 2024 our solar powered water well will be operational, ushering in expanded opportunities for food production and donations.
